Hello, I'm Gary aka the Creative Trekkie, an Edinburgh, Scotland based Freelance Graphic Designer, here to help you with branding, re-branding, social media and magazines/brochure design.
Earlier this year me and my wife decided to move from Somerset, England up to the beautiful Scotland, nearby Edinburgh. Well, after a lot of thought, organising and a bit of reflection on life and ourselves we both agreed that we want something different from life. We both been working as a part of corporate machine for a long time. She was an assistant manager for a fragrance shop, I was spending way more time helping people do photocopies and we both realised that we could do something else. Something that will makes us happier, independent and over all help us provide a better work-life balance. So, after a lot of thinking we both started freelancing. She is a teacher and for her so far it's going great.
I'm on the other hand just started diving into the world of freelancing. Working on social media like instagram, YouTube and being present on Twitter is not new to me at all. I've been doing that in the past 3 years and I really enjoy that with my creation that is Trekkerprise. I love working on that and I can't wait to get back to it later this year...
Here comes the creative trekkie...
When I was creating/designing my website I wanted to make an unusual impact, a brand that reflects and resonates with me the most. I'm a big Star Trek fan and the show was/is a big part of my life. It shaped me who I am today both as a human and as an artist. Being creative as a Trekkie is really who I am, so hence the name Creative Trekkie.
One might think though that "Ok, so you are a fan of Star Trek. All your work is Trek related?" No. I believe that I'm more than just a Trekkie and my creative flair gets moved by a lot of things. As you probably noticed in my portfolio I like drawing different things from Pokemon creatures - even though I'm not a Poke fan - through Disney, that I actually really like since my childhood. Sometimes I get inspired by looking outside my window or just roaming in the city where I live, looking up in the sky where clouds gather into formations... I know it's a cliche, but that is really how it works.
WHAT DO I DO?
As a designer I can do many things for you and for your business from a single business card to a t-shirt design, but what I really love is branding, re-branding, and magazines/brochure design. I have had the fortune to work with YouTube creators in the past and help them channel their message in a professional way. I also love the printed medium, from leaflets to magazines, t-shirt designs and a lot more. When I have free time I often find myself creating photo books as well for my home and for friends... maybe that is something that might interest you as well.
Generally speaking I love everything and anything design related. I love designing and updating my two website in a regular basis. I also love writing - even though I'm not really good at it, but that is something I find helpful for getting my thoughts together. In the future I'm planning to to write to this blog about my design process, tutorials, life as a designer and really just about what does it mean to be a Creative Trekkie. I also currently planning the YouTube side of this blog as well that I'll be sharing more on this blog towards the end of this year.
get in touch.
I know when it comes to freelance designers there are a lot of us out there to choose from. I won't try selling myself to anyone. I never believed to push myself or my services aggressively, but I hope that my approach, style and skills as a designer combined with my sci-fi filled heart will make you fill up that contact form. Don't hesitate to get in touch with enquires, questions or just simply say hi to me as I will appreciate that too.
